Avanti Senior Living has begun vaccinating team members and residents at their Avanti Senior Living at Towne Lake location in Cypress, TX.

Earlier this month, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued the first emergency use for a vaccine for the prevention of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and listed healthcare workers as well as long term care residents as first priority recipients.

Avanti Senior Living registered their residents and team members and were partnered with CVS Pharmacy as their preferred vaccination provider. Avanti Senior Living was contacted by CVS Pharmacy to set up a vaccine clinic at Avanti Senior Living at Towne Lake. The first vaccine clinic was conducted on December 30, 2020.

According to the CVS Health website, trained personnel under applicable state and federal laws and guidance will administer vaccines to the residents and team members at the in-site clinics. CVS Health immunizers are trained and certified according to company and state specific regulations. These immunizers may include pharmacists, pharmacy interns, and trained pharmacy technicians, as well as other qualified healthcare professionals. All CVS Health immunizers are trained in the administration of immunizations and hold an active CPR certification.

Avanti Senior Living collected consent forms from every resident and team member who wanted to receive the vaccine. “Our residents are excited and eager to get vaccinated,” says Matoki Joseph – Dyson, Executive Director.

Avanti Senior Living at Towne Lake is the first of Avanti’s communities to get the vaccine clinic started, but all communities are registered and awaiting clinic dates.

About COVID-19

The Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a global pandemic that is thought to mainly spread through close contact from person to person. Some individuals are asymptomatic, meaning they do not show any symptoms, however, they can still spread the virus to others. When someone with COVID-19 sneezes, coughs, talks, or breathes, they produce respiratory droplets. It’s these droplets that cause an infection when they are inhaled through the nose or mouth. Older adults are at the highest risk for severe illness.
