Memorial Day is a time to celebrate our fallen heroes – our military personnel who lost their lives while serving in the
Armed Forces. There are more than 12 million Veterans aged 65 and older. Many Americans celebrate Memorial Day
by visiting memorials or cemeteries, attending parades, or having family gatherings.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way family gatherings are held, you can still celebrate the day with your family and elderly loved ones, while having fun and remaining safe.

Here are a few ways to safely honor Memorial Day:

1. Attend a Flag Ceremony or Parade

This is a great tradition by joining others who are remembering and honoring Memorial Day. This is a perfect activity for family members of all ages.

2. Fireworks Show

After the flag has been honored, lowered, and folded according to tradition, many places display a fireworks show. Remember to follow CDC safety guidelines and protocols.

3. National Moment of Remembrance

To honor fallen soldiers and their loved ones, the nation stands unified at 3:00pm local time for one full minute.

5. Visit a Cemetery

Many individuals observe Memorial Day by visiting a cemetery and paying their respects. You and your elderly family members can also volunteer to place flags beforehand at gravesites.

In and around your community, there are sure to be plenty of activities to honor the men and women who have lost their lives serving our country. As the unofficial start of summer, this is the perfect day to gather your friends and family and celebrate the true spirit of Memorial Day.
